PROMAR

PROMAR is a Caribbean-wide campaign to prevent marine litter through innovation, community engagement, and policy change – locally implemented by Green VI.

How we do it

DATA & MONITORING

We collect and share vital data on waste entering our waters, creating baseline reports and standard procedures that help governments and communities track progress and take action.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

We pilot and scale innovative ways to reduce waste and transforming plastics into resources, showcasing local success stories, and proving that sustainable solutions are possible.

POLICY & CAPACITY BUILDING

We strengthen laws, systems, and partnerships that keep packaging waste in check – supporting governments, businesses, and communities to build a cleaner, more resilient future

EDUCATION & AWARENESS

We equip communities with the knowledge and tools to prevent marine litter – through campaigns, cleanups, workshops, and school outreach that inspire long-term behaviour change.

ON THE GROUND: PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

PROMAR in the BVI is where strategy meets action. From coastlines to classrooms, we are working alongside government, businesses, and residents to prevent marine litter at its source—turning everyday habits into lasting solutions that protect our islands.

DATA Collection & Monitoring

Through litter sampling, recycling data, and performance tracking, PROMAR is building the evidence needed to drive smarter decisions. From beach surveys to improved WE RECYCLE KPIs supported by partners like CleanHub, this data helps us understand what’s entering our environment—and how to stop it.

LONG BAY BEACH DEMONSTRATION SITE

In partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change (MENRCC), Long Bay Beach serves as a living demonstration site. Here, we are testing recycling systems, conducting ongoing litter sampling, and piloting biodegradable alternatives—showing what effective marine litter prevention looks like in practice.

Plastic Fab Lab: Turning Waste into Resource

The Plastic Fab Lab brings circular economy solutions to life. Using tools like extruders, injection moulders, sheet presses, and 3D printers, we are transforming collected plastics into new, locally made products—demonstrating how waste can become opportunity, innovation, and income.

PLASTIC BAN & DEPOSIT REFUND

Through litter sampling, recycling data, and performance tracking, PROMAR is building the evidence needed to drive smarter decisions. From beach surveys to improved WE RECYCLE KPIs supported by partners like CleanHub, this data helps us understand what’s entering our environment—and how to stop it.

CLEANUPS

Cleanups are more than just one-day events—they are entry points into long-term environmental stewardship. By partnering with Beyond the Reef, we tackle waste on remote and hard-to-reach islands that otherwise go untouched. On the main islands, our outreach team facilitates monthly cleanups, bringing together residents, schools, and community groups to remove litter, build awareness, and take ownership of protecting the places we love

Outreach & Community Engagement

Lasting change starts with people. PROMAR engages the community through surveys, school lesson plans, workshops, and public campaigns—equipping residents, students, and businesses with the knowledge and tools to reduce waste and adopt more sustainable practices in everyday life.

Our Oceans, Our future. From Shoreline to System change, Join the movement across the Caribbean and prevent marine Litter.

GREEN SCHOOLS

Through the collaborative SMART Schools project, Green VI integrated environmental sustainability into the BVI public school system. With 13 of 15 schools now SMART Certified, we continue to expand this impact through our dedicated Green Schools programme, fostering resilience and environmental awareness in every student.
