FOOD

We are catalysing  a circular model to divert and process organic waste. We facilitate this through strategic partnerships, educational gardens, and curriculum integration –  empowering our community to grow their own food and nourish our soil with locally made mulch and compost.

OPPORTUNITY

Organic waste – including landscape cuttings, food scraps and cardboard, makes up approximately half of the BVI’s waste stream. By diverting these materials from the dumpsite, we can create high-quality mulch and compost that reduces the need for expensive imports, strengthens local food security, and builds climate resilience.

OUR APPROACH

By connecting government, farmers, and the community, we’ve catalysed a circular system for organic waste diversion and processing. Our approach combines educational gardens and curriculum integration with community empowerment, ensuring we can all grow our own food while restoring our soil with local mulch and compost

FEATURED COMPONENTS

School Garden Classrooms

In partnership, we have catalysed 11 school gardens across Tortola and Virgin Gorda. These living classrooms integrate environmental awareness into the curriculum, teaching students the “Seed to Table” journey and fostering a deep connection to the earth and food security.

COMMUNITY MULCH & COMPOST SITES

Dedicated facilities on Tortola and Virgin Gorda process landscape waste and food scraps into high-quality organic soil amendments. These sites demonstrate a circular economy by turning “waste” into a valuable resource for local farmers and backyard gardeners.

EcoPark Demonstration Gardens

Located at our Tortola and Virgin Gorda EcoParks, these sites serve as public hubs for regenerative agriculture. Visitors can experience first-hand how we use biogas, composting, and water conservation techniques to grow food in a changing climate.

Garden Angel Programme

A community-led support network that pairs dedicated volunteers and experts with school gardens. Garden Angels provide the technical knowledge and consistent care needed to ensure these green spaces thrive throughout the school year and during holiday breaks.

INNOVATION

We actively cultivate Innovation by seeking out and adopting new and practical ideas, methods and products.
